Three friends and I decided to hike up Frozen Head Mountain to the Lookout Tower in, well, let's just say the conditions weren't perfect! My regular hiking partner Brad, along with some newbies, Brandon and Christie, hit the trail Saturday morning in the rain. We hiked up the South Old Mac trail then took the Lookout Tower trail up to the tower and campsite. As we gained elevation, the rain turned first to sleet and then to snow. We mades it to the campsite, set up our tents and hunkered down for a while.
I cooked from my vestibule and read for a while and enjoyed being warm and dry in my sleeping bag. After a while, we all crammed into Brad's two person tent for a game of cards, as the weather continued to sleet and snow outside. I was amazed at the wind whipping over the mountain. Eventually Brandon and Christie went to their tent and I went back to mine. The next morning, we packed up and enjoyed a beautiful hike down the North Old Mac trail. As we lost elevation, the signs of snow disappeared. It was my first snow trip and wound up being pretty enjoyable!
